Solid state drives are generally considered to be faster, more powerful, more efficient and in some respects more reliable than hard drives.
High end SSDs have proven to yield some very impressive read times, well over double a typical SATA hard disk drive.
The problem is that solid state drives start out really fast and then quickly start losing their speed.

An SSD has access speeds of thirty five to one hundred micro-seconds, that is almost one hundred times quicker. This quicker access speed suggests that programs will run a lot of quickly, that is incredibly vital, particularly for programs that access massive amounts of knowledge usually like your software package.

From what I know most of the dedicated servers available for selling are mostly using SSD's and yes they help faster server performance speeding up use of high performance web applications and databases.
