VPS Hosting:

VPS stands for Virtual Private Server. VPS hosting offers high stability as activities and traffic of other users does not affect your performance. There are a number of benefits of having a managed VPS for your small business. VPS is no longer a choice but it is necessary for the reliability and growth of your business.

Features of an Ideal VPS Hosting:

· Power sources

· Backup solutions

· Tier III data center

· Affordable price

· Bandwidth connectivity

· Security

· 99.95% guaranteed network uptime

Shared Hosting:

In Shared hosting, multiple websites utilize a single server. Each customer will have a limit on the total amount of server resources they can use, and this limit will be defined by your hosting package.

· cheapest hosting option

· multiple levels of hosting

· Equipped with a built-in cPanel

· No technical maintenance required

Now deciding which one is better totally depends on your website's requirement. As a conclusion, If you have a low budget and requirements are not much high then you can choose shared hosting otherwise you can choose VPS hosting.

Shared Server. All these users are using the same server, same processors, same memory, same operating system etc. This type of hosting is recommended for new users, and websites which are not high resource consuming (because when you use lot of resources you do affect the other users on the same server with you - like multiple people living in the same house).
VPS Server. If you tried to install multiple operating systems on the same computer, you probably saw they are independent systems, each of them being managed by you when is selected from the bootloader. Something like that is happening here but these systems are running all in parallel, splitting the resources of the computer. A VPS server, depending on its type, could be like a dedicated server, because you are able to choose for an operating system, to install the software you want an to configure the system as you want. Basically the server is divided into multiple "virtual" servers. It's like having an apartment in a block of flats.

VPS is your own server with root access. You can host anything on it as it's your server. You can have any applications, software. You will have the bandwidth, resources, inode only for your service, it won't get shared with any other server. You will get dedicated resources for your service on VPS. You can manage the server in your way.

Server will have good up-time and security measures if you will manage it from your end as there won't be interfere of other service. You will have root SSH access too.

If you have small site with just one to three pages with low resource, disk space, bandwidth usage then go with the shared hosing service. VPS is recommended for the applications which needs more resources, bandwidth, disk space etc. You should have good knowledge of the server management if you have your own VPS.

In my opinion Virtual Private Server technology (VPS) is essentially multiple isolated server environments on a single physical server. It uses its own disk space, RAM, CPU, IP addresses. A VPS account gives root access to the system, allowing for modifications of server configuration files and installation of applications.

Shared hosting (virtual hosting) is when you have multiple users residing on one server which share its resources and have the same operating system. Though you are sharing an environment each account does have its own “residence” which cannot be accessed by other users.

A VPS is better in performance compared to a shared hosting as on a VPS you are provided with guaranteed resources, comparatively more resources than on a shared hosting and many features that a dedicated server offers you with. So if you are not a beginner a VPS is a better option to opt for instead of a shared hosting.
No doubt shared hosting is cheaper compared to any other hosting platform but it offers limited features and less resources, so if your website has reasonable hits and you need more freedom and features a switch to VPS is a good option.

VPS Hosting-It shares one physical server but acts like multiple, separate servers.
It is known as Virtual private server.
VPS hosting advantages:
Complete control
Improved performance
Top-notch security
Greater flexibility
Endlessly scalable
Reliability

Shared hosting
Shared hosting-The website is hosted on a server shared by other websites.
Each site sits on its own partition on the server, to keep it separate from other sites.
This is the most economical option for hosting.

You may consider the difference as the one between a dedicated server and usual shared hosting.

With VPS you receive all the power of a dedicated hosting with the ability to have own set of services and customizable disk space. With shared hosting you have limited administrative access and can't customize software configurations while with VPS you can perform any actions from your control panel and don't need to contact technical support with every single request.

VPS hosting is strongly recommended for experienced programmers businesses that have a webmaster. VPS users can have complete control of the assigned servers whereas shared hosting is ideal for users that are on a limited budget...The VPS service as the name defines Virtual Private Server has own privacy while providing the hosting service. Users have their control on the management of their resources but it is little expensive than shared hosting..!!

The key differences which set VPS hosting apart from shared hosting are not a factor for those who wish to host a low-to-moderate traffic website and are happy with the level of control offered by a web hosting control panel like cPanel or Plesk. These individuals will prefer Shared Hosting for its perceived simplicity and ease of use: they generally do not have Linux system administration experience and they are not interested in picking up any.

Shared hosting is economical; it allows multiple customers to share the resources of one server, thus spreading out the costs among users. On the other hand VPS is often considered a step up from Shared Hosting; it can handle heavy traffic and custom applications. VPS also allows more control over server settings and resources, thus providing a more customized hosting environment.

Shared account is normally used for blogging websites, small e-commerce website or websites which are newly developed. VPS are like Dedicated servers. So the website needs to be that resource intensive to be hosted on it. Some users want Root access to the server while some want to install any custom application on the server. A VPS is recommended in this case.

If your site is business oriented and you start to experience more than a slow crawl of traffic, then it will become apparent very quickly that shared hosting was made with the minimum in mind.
A VPS is also cost effective, as long as you have more than $10/month to pay, and the benefits are unlimited. It's definitely worth the money :)

Simply put, shared hosting means your site will share the same server as many other sites. It's usually the cheapest option but comes with limited bandwidth, administration, and performance capabilities. VPS hosting is a more premium option, with the ability for greater customization and increased performance

Shared hosting means sharing a server – and its resources – with other sites. That's bandwidth, storage the lot. VPS hosting creates a virtual environment that imitates a dedicated server (where you get a server, and all its resources, to yourself), but within a shared hosting environment

Virtual Private Servers(VPS), gives you something more than shared web hosting plan but less than a dedicated servers. VPS is basically a part of server with full root access that offers you power, resources, RAM and dedicated control like you get in a dedicated server but at minimum prices.

VPS is good for control like controlling modules, installing your favorite application and customized setting of PHP, etc stack.

VPS also gives security and much secure than shared hosting. With VPS your files are secured unless you did something bad like host vulnerable script, etc.

While it is easy to see that shared hosting is a cheaper service, it can also get much more expensive for web agencies in the long run. Liquid Web's VPS and dedicated hosting allow you to focus on your core business, instead of worrying about servers or configurations

Shared hosting can only be used for basic websites/blogs. The resources are shared and can be very limited depending on your plan and you can also get affected by other customers' (hosted on the same server) website reputation.
