When you chose to start your own web hosting business , which path did you take? Did you decide to go the route of leasing a VPS server or try Reseller hosting.
I have seen that reseller seems to be cheaper than vps, but what makes others choose to go the way of vps. I would be greatful for any replies.

I would recommend you to start your business with a reseller account. It is the most logical way to start a web hosting business. It requires only some $12-$20/Month. You can choose your reseller account from the many available reseller hosting providers out there.
Why not start with a VPS or even a dedicated server? Well, there is no point in doing that, unless you already have a substantial amount of clients to begin with, plus you already know what youre doing. If you are starting from scratch, there is no need to spend on a VPS or a dedicated server.
Okay, so a reseller account. There are several types of reseller accounts available in the industry today. I will admit only the ones I am familiar with and have used before. its weblogmaker

If you want to start your own company and be professional you need to know what you are doing, people don't want to be hosted on a cheap reseller on a server that has been oversold a thousand times.
If you are serious about starting a web hosting business you need to have skill in server management and i would recommend having your own dedicated severs that way you can make sure you can provide the rock solid hosting that your clients deserve and you know you are in full control.
Yes VPS is best option if you are thing to provide hosting because you have more control and can easy manage your shared hosting clients .. in reseller hosting you are totally depend on Root owner when some little issues comes like when your client's ip got blocked in firewall etc..
Running a web hosting business is bit challenging.
You need to be on top of things, infrastructure needs to be taken care, customer support, bew requests etc etc.
You should go for reselling first then graduate to providing dedicated hosting or vps services.
I reckon getting your own system set up at home (e.g. a virtualised linux machine). Then, once you're competent you can handle the associated admin, I reckon starting mid way between a reseller and dedicated server and getting a VPS works.
Go for reseller first. This is more applicable if you are starting from zero and you are constrained by funds. Most of the VPS offers are unmanaged thus you may need to invest more time in managing the server instead of closing sales.
I personally would probably do reseller first if you don't have any experience managing a server. But at some point you'll grow and need to learn anyways. So it's almost a double edge sword.
To me best strategy is starting from affiliate hosting, to reseller and than on vps or dedicated server. Though i think hosting is most competitive and one may choose some other areas.
Reseller its better, but get a good host offering a lot of space and bandwidth, that is reliable (99.9% uptime) , providing 24/7 support and tons of offers and services.
if beginner and have limited knowledge about programing, serve etc, better is choose reseller, till you have enough knowledge and can upgrade to VPS , Semi Dedi or Dedi
IF you are familiar with some server management then you should consider a VPS. However a reseller is a great starting point.
You may start with a reseller and then move on to a VPS after you have gained more experience and clients.
I am using VPS and I think VPS is better option then reseller.

Reseller account is good in the beginning.
Reseller is the way to go for a beginner.
