My personal suggestion for selecting a domain name is to use your company’s name and branding in the domain. Keep it cleaver, memorable and short. Stick to dot com’s if possible/applicable. The general public hasn’t quite accepted more obscure domains name extensions. And as for SEO, get a good strategy for keyword use in search engine friendly URL’s and title & description metadata. Take some time to pick a domain that you can commit to using for the life of the business, after all website age is another important SEO factor.

What are your thoughts on selecting a domain name?
Which strategy do you prefer, exact keyword usage or company name / branding?

How much does your domain name factor into SEO rankings?
With all the changes in the 2011 Google Panda release this answer has changed over the last few years. Previous to the Google Panda update, the domain name of a website held a much bigger weight on the website’s SERP ranking. The change came about for two reasons: one, monster domain name holding companies decided to buy up millions of domain names and place low quality, place holding websites on the domain. Two, in an effort to increase their rank, directory lists and affiliate marketers were buying many domain names and placing low quality results on the domain.

Domain name decides the number of visitors to the website.Website name should be unique and easy to remember and it will be better if you will add the keyword in the domain name. Ir will affect the rank of your website, website rank will be increase when you will add the keyword in it. If it's too lengthy then no one remember it and as a result, no visitors, no money.

If the domain name will clarify the purpose of the website then it will also helpful to gain the rank of your website.

I feel this is also a very important part of on-page SEO as this also helps you in quick ranking. If you have a domain name with either the niche your are into or the keywords then surely you will get a lot of boost in google ranking.

Hope this helps?

It is definitely helpful but not an easy get like it used to be.

I always try to get a keyword rich domain, and one with existing pagerank and traffic is nice too. These get you a nice foundation.

But if someone does nothing about their onsite seo, then it is a wasted effort.

All other things being equal, a domain name with the keywords in it will win out. But all other things are almost never equal.

Importance of domain name:- The Domain Name is generally the organization that manages the internet domain names. With this the simplest guidance we can do is registering our own domain name very quickly and easily. The importance of Domain Name basically can be defined with the following 3 steps:
1. It’s your “FIRST IMPRESSION”.
2. It affects SEO ranking.
3. It defines your brand.

yes, domain name will impact your future seo efforts and search engine rankings in 2 ways

  1. keyword
    2.branding

keyword in the domain name is the key strategy. It helps in getting an early traffic in the development of site, and it will also help in building your brand recognition. When domain name itself is the keyword, it can very quickly rise to the first page of search results.

Some time ago Google said that keywords in domain name can be a way to filters in SE. But still it is a good on-page SEO practice to use keywords in domain names and can help to range better in SERPs. I think it isn't need to use long keywords "buy-cheap-keyword-here-online" and use strong general keywords.

It does, but is only one of many factors so you can't solely rely on this, make sure your content is well designed, that's the main part. Having a good name is always an advantage as it will help you be easy to remember and might boost your SEO a bit.

The importance of domain name keywords has changed dramatically over time as search engine algorithms have evolved. While there certainly are benefits of having targeted words in your domain, they are not as important as they once were for SEO.

Domain name matters much in search engines. It gives a hint and the summary of what you website is all about and what can be the contents. A related domain with keyword is more beneficial than with unrelated domain names.

Domain name is not important, only age matters for seo. Domain age is one of the factor to rank in the search engine. Domain age should be high when compared to the competitors. So dont make your domain to be expire.

Choosing a domain is the first thing and this should be done carefully. You should have a domain which is related to your niche and if you can find a domain with your targeted keywords that would be perfect.
