Need Managed Dedicated Server

Hi everyone. OK here is the issue. I have been using Rackspace Cloudsites for about a month now and am not happy at all. It is glorified shared hosting. Their mysql databases are located elsewhere and is not good for Wordpress. This is all my opinion so I do not want to get into a bashing session on Rackspace, just looking for a solution.

Anyhow, I am now looking into managed dedicated servers. I do not have experience with managing my own server, setting up an OS, etc. I know how to use cPanel and set up cron jobs, mysql, install wordpress, create FTP accounts, etc. When it comes to the actual physical server I have no idea what I am doing. I do not know about SSH or setting up control panels, etc.

My 4 websites get about 6000 visitors a day. All websites are running wordpress. I use W3TC (wordpress total cache) and still need performance help.

I need to have a reliable server to run wordpress. Also, the plugins that I use with wordpress can be intensive, specifically a translation plugin called Transposh (transposh.org) as well as gdstarrating (gdstarrating.com). The need for a reliable, robust and fast mysql capability is of the utmost importance. I was previously with inmotion hosting VPS which worked fine with the transposh plugin, but their servers got hacked and the CDN network that rackspace offers was enough to justify switching to CloudSites.

So, I would like to get a managed dedicated linux server that has a control panel preinstalled and is basically ready for me to add domains, change MX records for google apps, etc. I have used VPS services before but am really tired of the shared hosting model.

So, what do you guys recommend I do? My budget is roughly $200 - $300 a month, maybe a little more. I am paying $150/month with CloudSites and am not happy at all.

I have looked into Hivelocity and a few others. Rackspace dedicated servers are very overpriced I think. These hosting "review" sites are all affiliates so I do not trust them, I need your advice.

Thanks in advance!

Absolutely, most of the reviews websites are owned by the affiliates, so they have totally become useless. If you are looking for a flexible and scalable web hosting solution or if you plan to trim down your IT expense or if you are reluctant paying for that portion of server resources that you have never used, you might want to check out our recently launched eUKhost.com "eNlight" Cloud Hosting solution.

Our eNlight solution offers an automatic scaling of resources, where resources are automatically scaled up and down as per the requirement of the application/website hosted on the server. Upon the detection of more server resources such as RAM or CPU, it automatically assigs and bills on a 5 minute usage period. I believe that this is the exact product you are looking for.

How long has the host been around, it’s beneficial if they have been established for some time, but this doesn’t mean rule out the really new ones but if you are going to choose a newish hoster, ask your self how are you going to feel if your site just disappears and you have no chance of getting it back?

The most valuable negative reviews are the ones that portray both sides of the pictures because they are unlikely to be biased as they can see the good and the bad unlike the ones that are just really pissed at a particular host because they made one or two mistakes.

Read other clients' or customers' testimonials. Try to contact the current customers of the web host provider of your choice and see if they are satisfied with the kind of services being rendered by the web host company.

Do you really need a dedicated server? 6,000 hits a day is 4 hits per second on average. A decent VPS should be able to handle that. That's my two cents. I'm just curious, how much bandwidth do you use?

Do not go to the sites that say top 10 hosting or anything of the likes because those are affiliate sites and for them the best host will be the one that pays them the most for passing you on to them.

Your budget should be fine. Do you have any specific location requirements? That could help you narrow things down somewhat.
