The higher CPC indicates that:
- A) it’s a big-value niche and
- B) the customer‘s lifetime value is on the high end as companies are willing to spend great amounts of money on ads for that keyword.
That’s so because they know their customer value besides knowing that they can still reap profit despite what the CPC is. For instance, search “Los Angeles personal injury lawyer.” You’ll notice that the CPC shows $51.45 (may change with time). That’s because personal injury lawyers already know very well that a single case can fill their pockets with hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Saying that the goal of this exercise is to check whether companies are paying for ads in your selected market. If they are, it’s truly a positive sign.
How to Confirm whether a Niche is Growing
Entering a non-evergreen niche with decreasing search volume and interest is among the worst things that can happen. That’s why I focus only on evergreen niches or at least those with a long time horizon.
For instance, I won’t consider SEO as an evergreen niche because Google, Bing, or any other search engine company could go out of business. This is unlikely, but yes, it won’t happen overnight for sure. That’s why SEO has a long time horizon—saying that I recommend using Google Trends to figure out the trend pattern for your chosen niche.
Use Google Trends
Just visit Google Trends, and enter your niche. Check whether it’s trending upward.
Also, concentrate on the suggested ideas below as sometimes those are attracting greater attention, and you may have to pivot. The trend pattern won’t have to hockey stick upward. However, it should be stable and not drastically declining. For instance, this trend pattern for “AskJeeves” seems extremely bad and would be the one to truly avoid.
You’re going to select a niche that :
- You have some passion in or can develop the same in the upcoming time as you dive deeper into the niche.
- The niche has a constant trend pattern, and there’s no decline in interest.
- Companies are advertising in your selected niche, and folks are buying products.
- Users on various other platforms are engaging and also discussing topics related to your niche.
- Searchers are finding solutions or answers in your niche. In simple words, search volume is high on Google.

The very first thing I’ll clear is that this isn’t your niche website’s full-scale keyword research operation. I’m going to present the method of basic keyword research to help you in confirming what niche is perfect for entering. Also, you should go through this process only with a small number of prospective niches (around 5-10 prospective niches is Ok).
Here’s what you should do:
Let’s consider that my prospective niche is “baseball cleats.” Now, I’m going to put this idea into the Ahrefs Keyword Explorer tool, and you can use Ahrefs for this same process as well. There are some elements worth examining here.
Is there search volume for your primary idea?
This doesn’t exactly mean you’re supposed to target this exact keyword that’s used here, but you need to discover that searchers are truly interested in the topic. The “feel happy” news is that there’s no guesswork needed here. Just following the search volume is enough.
Does the keyword have many variations?
The next section to concentrate on is the keyword ideas section. If Ahrefs is showing different variations besides sub-topics of your primary niche, it’s a cool thing. Ultimately, this step of the process is to ensure that this niche has search activities. That’s all. The next part of the process will ensure that it’s possible to actually rank the keyword or not.
Is the keyword “difficult” to rank?

But currently, we’re just looking to get a general idea.
I’d recommend you repeat this process with all your filtered niches. Then, give each of your filtered niches a “Pass” or “Fail” grade considering the SEO competition.
Then after narrowing your list down to only the “Passes,” rate those niches on the basis of your interest level in the topic.
Score the niches in three categories:
- Could Be Interesting
- Simply not Interested
Now, what if you don’t have the budget to buy Ahrefs subscriptions?
Here’s the other way:
Install the Keywords Everywhere Plugin (which most of the SEO experts use) and install the MozBar.
Then simply enter your broad niche idea and look at whether it has search volume. Then export the SERP results using the MozBar.
In case the average DA is 50+, then it’s a super competitive niche loaded with authority websites competing. I won’t disqualify that niche though, for just this reason since that’s just one keyword.
In case you encounter an average DA of 50+ of the top 10 competitors, then simply repeat this process with a variety of keywords, especially longer-tail keywords. What if you examine 10-20 different keywords and still got DA averages above 50? You should move on to a different niche for sure.
Keep in mind:
You can possibly beat these authority websites if you have hyper relevancy and content depth. It’s just tough and will take longer. I’d rather prefer going with the path of least resistance. Especially in case, you’re new to the process we’re discussing.
My last advice is to invest your time in this step rather than acting hasty
Believe in doing deep research and don’t settle on any niche before you’re fully certain about successfully beating the competition in it.
Write top-quality articles for your new micro niche website
Now that we’ve finally found some keywords worth targeting, what to do with them now?
We need to integrate them into our articles to get them ranked.

Just think of the sort of queries people will prefer typing into Google, and you’re supposed to cover exact topics in your articles. Another hack is to find another website about your niche (yes, spying is what you call it) and steal a few effective article ideas (certainly don’t copy the actual content, try to make it better by rewriting it in your own words).
